Arriving in Oslo

For those of you joining us from abroad, we recommend flying to Oslo Gardermoen

Vy (Norwegian State Railways)

There are regular Vy Regional trains that travel from Oslo Airport Gardermoen to Oslo S and Oslo National Theatre, both in the centre of Oslo. Duration is 30 mins and it costs approx £10. You can buy your ticket on the local transport app here, which is also used for local buses and underground. For more information and timetables visit Vy website.

Flybussen

The airport bus runs several routes between Oslo city centre and Oslo Airport Gardermoen, which costs approx 250NOK/£20. You can buy your ticket from the bus driver. https://www.flybussen.no/

Flytoget (airport express train)

The Flytoget Airport Express Train departs from the airport every 10 or 20 minutes and goes direct to Oslo S (Oslo Central Station) and National Theatre. Duration is 19–22 minutes and costs approx 300NOK/£25. You can buy your ticket at the airport.

Staying in Oslo

The easiest option will be to stay in Oslo, both in terms of getting to and from the airport and for getting to the venue on the day.

Since the trains from the airport will take you into the centre of town, and the buses to the venue are also leaving from the city centre, the most practical option would be a hotel in the city centre. Here are a few possibilities which shouldn’t bankrupt you:

There are also loads of Airbnbs in the city. Our favourite neighbourhoods are Kampen, Gamle Byen, Vålerenga and Grunerløkka, all of which are approx a 20 minute bus/train ride or 10 min taxi ride into the city centre. We particularly recommend Kampen if you like the sound of sourdough roman pizza to soften your hangover on Sunday… (https://www.farine.no)

Other options

There are a couple of smaller towns nearer the venue with a small selection of hotels and airbnbs etc. This will involve a bit more co-ordination both to get there from the airport (may need to rent a car….) and to get to the venue on the Saturday.

Ski – commuter town outside of Oslo. Don’t expect a Scandinavian idyll, but is a bit nearer to Geiteberg (20 min drive).

Drøbak – very pretty seaside town looking out over the Oslo fjord. Its a 40 minute drive from Geiteberg though, and further from the airport. Would be a good option if you are looking for somewhere outside of the city.

In the countryside – there are a handful of hotels etc. nearer the venue, varying in price and degree of comfort!

Travelling around Oslo

There are several options for travelling around Oslo, including tram, tube and bus. We recommend that you download the ticket app, where you can easily purchase tickets. You can either purchase a full day ticket, or single tickets which lasts for one hour. The same ticket can be used on all trams, tubes and busses within Oslo. As long as you are just travelling within Oslo, you only need to buy a ticket for zone 1.

The ticket app is available here.

You can also use Uber, Bolt, or Oslo Taxi (tel 02323)
